About the Project

From a foundation of historical research, the Episcopal Cemetery Project has grown into an archaeological excavation, bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds from throughout the local area. The cemetery was the site of two churches: St. George's (1761-1819) and St. Mark's (1850-1916) and was tied to key events in the Revolutionary War, including the Battle of White Plains, the court martial of Major General Charles Lee, and the march of Rochambeau's army. Join us as we investigate the location, construction, and use of the churches and explore how they were connected to the larger historical processes of the 18th and 19th centuries.
